Jade is a gemstone thought to offer several advantages, such as attracting good fortune, grounding energy, and fostering greater maturity within relationships.
Various crystals and minerals are believed to carry distinct energies and deliver specific benefits.
Some people hold that crystals and stones possess potent energies that support physical and emotional well-being. They’ve been utilized for these intentions for many centuries.
Jade is a well-known gemstone often called the stone of luck and joy.
“The use of jade stretches back a long way and originates in ancient Eastern cultures,” says crystal practitioner Carol Boote. “In China, jade is especially venerated and celebrated. It appears engraved in many types of jewelry and sculptures.”
Jade’s appeal extended beyond Eastern traditions.
“Fragments of jade tools and ornaments have been uncovered at archaeological sites across the globe,” Boote notes. “Maori tribes in New Zealand would embellish their masks with jade and would invoke its mystical qualities when making offerings to water spirits.”
Even the Spanish made use of jade, Boote adds, referring to it as “piedra de ijada,” or stone of the loin. This name may reflect jade’s historical reputation for aiding bladder and kidney issues, she explains.
Jade stone properties
Jade “is a stone that does not demand from you. Instead, it supplies the love and bravery you need to elevate your vibration, pursue your dreams, and welcome the beautiful things wanting to enter your life,” Boote explains.
Boote clarifies that there are two minerals known as jade: nephrite and jadeite.
“To an inexperienced observer, these minerals are hard to tell apart. Specialists typically differentiate them using sound frequency, or chiming,” she says.
According to Boote, both varieties share the same healing attributes.
Jade stone benefits
Jade is attributed with a range of potential benefits. These include:
Luck
Jade is frequently labeled the lucky stone or the happiness stone.
“Both types of jade have long been linked with drawing in good fortune,” Boote says.
A disk with a central hole is believed to invite celestial beings, and placing a coin in the mouth of a jade fish or a carved frog is seen as auspicious, Boote adds.
Healing
Jade is also thought to possess healing qualities. Boote notes that these qualities vary with the stone’s color.
“Jade is mainly green but also occurs in colors like lemon and lilac,” Boote says.
Green is commonly associated with bringing calm and serenity to challenging circumstances.
Boote suggests jade could potentially support various organs and health issues, including:
- spleen
- kidney
- bladder
- hormonal imbalances affecting fertility
- the skeletal system
There is no scientific evidence to support the use of jade for the treatment of any condition. Stones or crystals should never be used in place of medical care.
Relationships
Boote further contends that jade can promote healing within relationships and the self. It may foster:
- honesty
- maturity
- vital life energy
- self-love
- self-acceptance
“It fosters honesty and understanding, and … [it] draws nurturing relationships and love,” Boote says.
The science behind jade stones
It’s important to recognize that scientific support for jade’s healing properties — and crystal healing overall — is sparse.
An earlier study presented at international conferences in 1999 and 2001 suggests that perceived benefits from crystals may stem from the placebo effect.
While skeptics frequently dismiss crystal healing, many individuals attest to their positive effects. Trying them is unlikely to cause harm, provided you don’t substitute them for conventional medical care.
How to use jade stone
Typical ways to utilize jade include placing it around your environment, meditating with it, or wearing it as jewelry.
Physical surroundings
“In feng shui practice, jade is often positioned in the southeast corner of a home or office to invite prosperity and wealth,” says Boote.
Boote says jade can assist with:
- cultivating a constructive attitude toward money
- manifesting professional objectives
- approaching finances creatively
- supporting entrepreneurial endeavors
She notes jade may serve as a talisman during monetary exchanges.
Meditation
Jade can also help sharpen clarity and concentration.
“Jade can enhance your mental faculties so you reach clear thinking and make sound decisions,” Boote says. “Some individuals meditate with jade when weighing prudent investments and drafting business agreements.”
Specific jade colors are said to offer particular advantages, according to Boote:
- Dark tones are centering and grounding.
- Light green soothes the mind.
- Lavender jade supports intuition and instinct.

Wearing
Wearing jade as jewelry is thought to be beneficial, especially when placed near the heart chakra.
“When the heart chakra is out of balance, we can feel constrained in interactions with others and our surroundings. We may become overly critical or experience impulses to control or be controlled,” Boote explains.
She claims green jade resonates with the heart chakra’s vibration and can be helpful if the heart energy becomes blocked.
“Jade carries a vibration that can shift obstructions and cleanse to encourage a healthy energy flow through the heart center,” Boote says.
With other crystals
Another approach is using jade within a chakra crystal arrangement, combining various colored stones to represent the chakras, commonly the seven main centers.
“Jade can be included in chakra crystal groupings depending on your goals and the range of crystal colors you select,” Boote says.
She notes dark jade paired with earth stones like hematite is useful for grounding and stabilizing the root chakra.
Green jade alongside blue agate can help balance the energies of the heart, throat, and third eye chakras.
Yellow jade can be teamed with carnelian or garnet to stimulate the sacral chakra.
Boote highlights that jade is an earth stone that pairs well with other earth stones such as jet, onyx, obsidian, and black tourmaline.
“These are all grounding crystals with a robust vibration,” she says. They “can be effective in a grid or mandala meant to keep you centered and grounded and to activate the root chakra.”
Takeaway
Jade is credited with numerous potential benefits and can be a meaningful addition to a crystal collection — especially if you wish to work with gentler energies, says Boote.
However, none of these assertions are validated by scientific research. If you opt to include crystals in your wellness routine, do not use them as a substitute for medical treatment.
